THE LEFT LANE
Tight-bracelet help

Advertiser Staff and News Services

Jingle, jangle, OUCH!

When it comes to all things Hawaiian bracelets, we learned a new trick about how to slide on a tight one, which doesn't come with a clasp: Take a small, plastic shopping bag, like the kind that comes on a roll near in the produce section of the grocery store. Slide it over your hand, then push the bracelet over it. It glides on like a dream.

Use the same approach to take it off.

And be sure to reuse the plastic bag: They make great lunch sacks.

Care for caregivers

Caregivers must take care: It's easy to be overwhelmed by the job of tending to another person's needs. Through a free morning workshop tomorrow, caregivers will be able to learn ways to manage problems and stress that can result from caregiving.

"When you're so intent on caring for someone you love, if you don't (take care of yourself), your own body is going to give way, and you're no longer able to take care of that person," said Patsy Izumo of Manoa, who was caregiver to a calabash aunt after she had a stroke. "If you wait until you break down, it's too late. Unless we keep ourselves well, we're not going to be able to take care of that loved one."

The free, two-hour session begins at 10 a.m. at the parish hall of Central Union Church, 1660 S. Beretania St. Jill Wakabayashi of Kapiolani Community College's physical therapist assistant program will discuss caregiver health and demonstrate methods of stress relief. Information: Bob Coulter, 942-2676, or the church at 941-0957.

Eruption of exotica

Listen in for music from Don Tiki on the latest Samsung Electronics commercial on TV.

In the commercial, the overhead liquid crystal display TV's vivid colors and crisp picture upstage runway models at a fashion show. It debuted May 15, and is being broadcast nationally.

In the background, a soon-to-be released remixed version of Don Tiki's song, "The Other Side of the Moon," sets the tempo for the models' runway walk.

Don Tiki has two albums out on Taboo Records: "The Forbidden Sounds of Don Tiki," which includes performances by Martin Denny on several tracks, and "Skinny Dip with Don Tiki." Their newest, "Don Tiki Adulterated — The Remix Project," is another packet of exotica and lounge music.
