Former Philippines President Fidel Ramos will arrive in Hawai'i Sunday for a three-day visit and will meet with members of the Filipino community at a reception Monday at the Philippine Consulate.
The consulate will host the public event a forum and reception honoring the former president and his wife, Amelita Ramos at 6:30 p.m. Monday.
Throughout his stay here, Ramos has planned meetings with community leaders, scholars and government officials.
Ramos was elected in 1992 and served a six-year term. His administration forged a peace pact in 1996 with the Moro National Liberation Front, then the largest Muslim separatist guerrilla group. He also dismantled monopolies and deregulated key industries, allowing Filipinos to enjoy a measure of prosperity after more than a decade of economic stagnation.
