Apartment fire deliberately set
A fire that was deliberately set forced evacuation early yesterday of a 14-story apartment building in Pawa'a. No injuries were reported in the 2:47 a.m. blaze at the Holiday Manor, 1650 Kanunu St.
Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Capt. Kenison Tejada said it appears a flammable liquid was used to start the fire in Unit 1307. The resident used a standpipe hose to fight the fire from his balcony and prevented it from spreading to the 14th floor, Tejada said.
Holiday Manor manager Nick Kaloyanoff said security videotapes will be turned over to investigators.
Eight fire companies had the fire under control at 3:06 a.m. Damage was estimated at $80,000 to the building and $2,000 to the apartment's contents. An apartment below the burned unit had $4,000 water damage.
Residents were allowed back into their units at 4 a.m.

Sewage spills into marsh area
A ruptured line caused a sewage spill yesterday at the Kukanono wastewater pump station in Kailua.
The spill began at about noon, causing an undetermined amount of wastewater to spill into Kawai Nui Marsh, the city said. City crews yesterday afternoon worked to contain the spill.
Although the spill is in an area not accessible to the public, warning signs have been posted and samples will be analyzed, the city said.
