Author to discuss 'Muslim factor'

A free lecture, "Moving From the Clash of Civilizations to Congruence: The Muslim Factor," will be held at 7 p.m. June 2 at the Luke Auditorium of the Wo International Center, Punahou School.
Saleem Ahmed, an author and founder of the Believer's All Network, will discuss the Quran and hadith (sayings by the prophet Muhammad).

Class of spiritual leaders graduates
Nearly two dozen people completed the two-year spiritual directors formation program on May 15.
The two-year ecumenical program, the second to be offered in Hawai'i, was sponsored by the Episcopal Diocese of Hawai'i and three Roman Catholic orders the Maryknoll Sisters, the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary, and the Sisters of the Third Franciscan Order, who run St. Francis Medical Center.
Staff from Mercy Center Spirituality and Conference Center in Burlingame, Calif., visited O'ahu once a month to offer instruction to the military chaplains, pastors from mainline denominations and Roman Catholic and Episcopal lay leaders.
"The graduates were about 50 percent clergy (and) 50 percent laiety," said David Barratt, an Episcopalian lay leader at St. John's in Kula, Maui.

Religious right topic of talk
Larry Jones, a former United Church of Christ minister and currently an adjunct instructor at Chaminade University, will be guest speaker at a discussion of "The Role of the Religious Right in U.S. Foreign Policy" at 3:30 p.m. tomorrow at Revolution Books, 2626 S. King St.
