okyo Nights, the ARTafterDARK event at the Honolulu Academy of Arts on Friday, provides a chance to see the spring's blockbuster exhibition "Japan & Paris: Impressionism, Postimpressionism, and the Modern Era." The show closes June 6.

ARTafterDARK is designed for professionals, single or partnered, who want a Friday night entertainment option with panache. Those who buy an Academy membership that night are admitted free for future ARTafterDARK events, and will have their $7 admission fee refunded. The Academy Shop will also be open for browsing.

Organizers will offer "Zip tours" of the woodblock print exhibition "Influencing Paris: Japanese Prints Collected by European Artists." Patrons also have the option of dining in the open-air Pavilion Cafe. In addition to the world art collections, there are quiet courtyards to carry on private conversations. Taiko drummers will provide live entertainment in the Luce Pavilion.

Chef Mike Nevin's Pavilion Cafe will be open for relaxed dining, offering a menu of pupus and light supper fare, beer and wine selections.

On view in the art museum during Tokyo Nights are a variety of companion exhibitions to "Japan & Paris," including "European Modernism, 1860-1930: Prints from the Academy's Collection," a collection of about 30 prints by many of the same European masters in "Japan & Paris"; "Influencing Paris: Japanese Prints Collected by European Collections," featuring some of the most famous Japanese woodblock prints which dramatically influenced the greatest painters of the French Impressionist movement, inlcuding Claude Monet; and "Art & Life in Paris & the Countryside," an interactive exhibition that explores the lives and times of prominent artists.

The event takes place 5 to 9 p.m. Friday. Admission is free for Academy of Arts members and $7 for nonmembers. Special exhibition admission to "Japan & Paris" is $15 and includes admission to Tokyo Nights.
