Ige, Tamashiro face Okada, Medeiros in Brown final

Roy Ige and Kent Tamashiro play Alvin Okada Jr. and Earl Medeiros in today's 36-hole final in the 53rd Francis Brown 4-Ball tournament at Ala Wai Golf Course.

Ige and Tamashiro defeated Garret Omuro and Del-Marc Fujita, 2 and 1, in the quarterfinals and John Bascuk and Troy Frazier, 4 and 2, in the semifinals yesterday.

Okada and Medeiros defeated Norman Inouye and Lin Akiyama on the 19th hole in the quarterfinals and Gary Kong and John Nakano, 3 and 1, in the semifinals.

The first 18 holes today begins at 7 a.m. and the final 18 at noon at Ala Wai.

Kodama 50th: University of Hawai'i senior Matt Kodama shot a 4-over-par 76 and finished tied for 50th at the NCAA Division I Men's West Regional yesterday at Sunriver (Ore.) Resort-Crosswater Club.

Kodama finished at 8-over 224 and did not qualify for the nationals. Golfers from the top 10 teams and the top two individuals from non-qualifying teams will play in the NCAA Championships, June 1 to 4, at Hot Springs, Va.

UCLA's Travis Johnson (72) and Arizona's Chris Nallen (72) were medalists at 211. UCLA won the regional with a 1-over 865, a stroke ahead of New Mexico.
