DAVID HUDSON and SHARON HUDSON have been appointed new leaders of the Salvation Army's Hawaiian and Pacific Islands Division, effective June 30. David Hudson, a major, will serve as divisional commander, while his wife, also a major, will become director of women's organizations. Previously, David Hudson was community relations and development secretary, Western Territory. Sharon Hudson was Western Territory's Older Adult Ministries director and volunteer director.

They succeed Ralph and Ivy Hood, both majors, who will transfer to the Salvation Army's Long Beach, Calif., Territorial Headquarters to become territorial secretary for personnel and territorial corps ministry secretary, respectively.

JOHN T. FUJIEKI, chairman, president and chief executive officer of Star Markets Ltd., has been named to the board of directors of the Food Marketing Institute, which is based in Chicago. The organization conducts programs in research, education, industry relations and public affairs on behalf of its 2,300 food retailers and wholesalers worldwide.

Fujieki started in the family business in 1974, and served a variety of positions before becoming senior vice president in 1993, and president and chief operating officer in 1995. He assumed his current position in 2001.

Star Markets began as the Kakaako Meat Market in 1929.

Since the first Star Market opened in 1954, the company has grown into a 10-store chain of supermarkets on three islands, featuring in-store banks, pharmacies, bakeries and delis.

• Bank of Hawaii has announced these promotions:

  • DEAN SHIGEMURA, who was named Bank of Hawaii executive vice president and bank treasurer last year, has been given the additional role of corporate treasurer of Bank of Hawaii Corp. He will oversee treasury operations, including the company's investment portfolio, management of interest rate risk, liquidity and capital. He is also responsible for the share repurchase program, balance sheet planning and forecasting, and foreign exchange and money market activities. Shigemura joined the bank in 1999 as vice president and investment officer, and was promoted to senior vice president in 2002.
  • BRIAN STEWART has been promoted to executive vice president and controller. He assumes responsibility for the company's accounting functions, including management and financial accounting, and financial and regulatory reporting. He joined the bank in 2001 as vice president and finance officer for the retail and investment services segments, and was promoted the following year to senior vice president and manager of management reporting.

PAUL DOWER, who began his career with Roberts Hawaii Inc. as a Honolulu sightseeing tour driver in 1975, has been named O'ahu operations manager, responsible for all Roberts tours and transportation operations on the island. He is a former assistant manager. His responsibilities now will also include shuttle services, special charters and Roberts Hawaii School Bus transportation services.

Filling Dower's former position as assistant manager will be ISAAC TAKAHASHI, former Roberts dispatch supervisor. Takahashi will be responsible for driver development and training, cruise ship transportation services, and on-site management of special charters, conventions and major group movements on O'ahu. He joined Roberts in 2000 as a manager trainee.

MICHAEL GIESA, a 34-year veteran of personal trust and investment management, has been named senior vice president of First Hawaiian Bank, and manager of client financial services in the bank's trust division, part of the Financial Management Group. For the past four years, Giesa created and managed the trust and investment management program for Allstate Bank in Illinois, a subsidiary of Allstate Insurance Co.
