Advertiser Staff
Hawai'i soldiers from the 65th Engineer Battalion recovered several caches of munitions near the Tal Ashtal airfield south of Kirkuk on Saturday at about 3 p.m., military officials in Iraq said yesterday.
The soldiers found more than 50 mortar, artillery and anti-aircraft rounds, six mortar fuses and two rocket-propelled grenades. Artillery rounds are commonly used by insurgents to build bombs.
The soldiers destroyed the caches.
