Advertiser Staff and News Services
Adult alt-rockers Train, country-crossover vocalist Jo Dee Messina and lo-fi-indie-goddess-turned-pop-princess Liz Phair (pictured right) headline BayFest 2004, the annual July 4th weekend fireworks, music and fun fest at Marine Corps Base Hawaii.
Why we're excited: It's Phair's first-ever O'ahu gig. Phair hits the main stage on July 2, Train on July 3 and Messina on July 4. More information: www.bayfesthawaii.com.

Shrektacular opening
It's a humongous "happily ever after" for "Shrek 2." The computer-animated fairy-tale satire collected an estimated $104.3 million at the weekend box office, trailing only 2002's "Spider-Man" as the second-biggest three-day tally in movie history. Many "Shrek 2" tickets were discounted for children and matinee audiences; otherwise the cartoon would have made "Spider-Man's" $114.8 million opening weekend look itsy-bitsy. "Troy," was in second place, earning $23.8 million for a total of $85.8 million. "Van Helsing" crossed the $100 million mark, earning $10.1 million over the weekend. "Mean Girls" was fourth, with $6.9 million.
