John K. Gouveia, who police say was the driver of a pickup truck that sideswiped a car before hitting one officer and running over the foot of another at Liholiho Street and Wilder Avenue, was charged with two counts of assault on a police officer, two counts of second-degree robbery and first-degree reckless endangering.
Police say John Gouveia was the driver of a pickup truck that hit one officer and ran over the foot of another.
In addition, police charged Gouveia with the May 10 theft of a 1992 Mercedes 300E from a Wailupe Circle residence, which occurred one day after the car owner's purse containing address documents and the key for the Mercedes were stolen.
In addition to the two officers injured at Liholiho and Wilder, a third officer was injured when he was dragged on Round Top Drive by a pickup truck with altered license plates that had been stopped by police investigating a recent rash of vehicle break-ins. Two of three men in the pickup truck the driver and a passenger seated in the middle complied when ordered by police to get out of the truck.
A man seated next to the passenger's side door slid over into the driver's seat and drove off, dragging the officer 10 to 15 feet. A shot was fired at the truck, which was found abandoned at 1138 Davenport St.
The fourth officer was injured when he was struck by a motorist while responding to the Round Top incident.
None of the officers' injuries was serious, police said.
The Round Top incident occurred at 12:30 p.m. and the incident at Liholiho and Wilder happened at 1:35 p.m. Police are not certain if the two cases are related.
Gouveia was later arrested at 1808 Punahou St. after abandoning his pickup truck on Dominis Street.
