Woman charged in fake bus passes
Police on Sunday arrested a 50-year-old woman in Kaka'ako on suspicion of manufacturing and selling counterfeit bus passes.
The woman, who has no permanent local address, was arrested at 1:40 p.m. on Halekau-wila and Cooke streets and booked on first-degree forgery. Her arrest followed the arrests of a man, 39, and woman, 19, at 2340 Kamehameha Highway on Saturday for allegedly using counterfeit bus passes.
Investigators said the woman arrested Sunday has been manufacturing about 20 fake bus passes a month and selling them for $20 each since March.
Fire destroys home on Big Island
HILO, Hawai'i A fire at a two-story home in lower Puna caused an estimated $200,000 damage yesterday morning, fire officials said.
Firefighters arrived at the home on 24th Avenue in Hawaiian Paradise Park at 6:27 a.m. to find the structure engulfed. The cause of the fire has not been determined.
Fire officials said a narrow driveway made it difficult to maneuver fire trucks into the property.
The owner was able to escape, but a dog was believed to have been trapped on the second floor of the house, officials said.
Man arraigned in Waimalu shooting
A 54-year-old man was arraigned yesterday at District Court on a first-degree reckless endangering charge for allegedly shooting at his son Wednesday in Waimalu. Bail for Peti M. Teofilo is $50,000.
A police report filed at District Court states that Teofilo fired five shots from a rifle at his son, Peti Teofilo Jr., who was in his pickup parked at 98-103 Kanuku St.
Teofilo Jr. told police he had confronted his father at an apartment building on Kanuku Street about giving drugs to girls.
Driver sought in hit-and-run
Honolulu police are seeking information on the driver of a dark-colored truck with oversized tires that struck a 78-year-old woman Wednesday while leaving the parking lot at 1822 Lanakila Ave. at 12:02 p.m.
The woman was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in serious condition.
