UH, UNLV football likely to play in '06, '08

The University of Hawai'i and Nevada-Las Vegas football teams are expected to play each other in Las Vegas in 2006 and at Aloha Stadium in 2008.

UNLV spokesman Mark Wallington said "no contracts are in place," but "I expect it to happen."

UNLV athletic director Mike Hamrick was quoted in yesterday's editions of the Las Vegas Sun saying, "we have an agreement to play."

UH coach June Jones added: "I've said all along, I'd love to play at Vegas every year. It'll be a good a series — for us and for our fans."

The Warriors will be allowed a maximum 12 regular-season games in 2006. If the Western Athletic Conference, of which UH is a member, expands to nine or 10 teams by then, the game in Las Vegas would be the Warriors' fifth road game in 2006. Purdue is UH's only non-conference football team signed for the 2006 season.

Last September, nearly 10,000 Hawai'i fans attended the UH-UNLV football game at Sam Boyd Stadium.
