Advertiser Staff

Florida State head coach Sue Semrau, believed to be the only active head coach among the final four contenders for the vacant University of Hawai'i women’s basketball coaching job, has withdrawn from consideration.

"We had some preliminary talks but I’ll be at Florida State next year," Semrau told The Advertiser today.

She is 92-110 in seven seasons as head coach at FSU. She has had two winnings seasons and one NCAA Tournament appearance there. She has two years remaining on her contract, a FSU official .

Prior to arriving in Tallahassee, Fla., she was an assistant at Wisconsin for three years and had stops at Northern Illinois and Occidental.

Semrau declined to say when she dropped out of consideration for the UH job. "I don’t rally want to talk about it," she said. "I had some preliminary talks with them, it was never anything very serious."

The UH job became vacant when Vince Goo retired at the end of last season after 17 years as coach.
