Business forum on Thursday

The Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii is hosting a forum Thursday on "business-friendly initiatives" that highlight some of the changes state government has developed to make it easier for businesses to clear tax hurdles, obtain state contracts, address the rising cost of insurance and deal with other issues.

Speakers include Kurt Kawafuchi, the director of taxation; Nelson Befitel, the director of labor and industrial relations; Mark Recktenwald, director of commerce and consumer affairs and Russ Saito, the head of the Department of Accounting and General Services.

The forum, to be held at Dave & Buster's showroom on 1030 Auahi St. from 8 to 10:30 a.m., is open to both chamber members and non-members. Registration is $15 for members and $20 for non-members. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m. with continental breakfast.

A second forum on infrastruture of the airport, harbors, roads, sewer and water, will be held June 23 at the Neal Blaisdell Center.
