UH's women sailors in fifth at nationals

The University of Hawai'i sailed into fifth place yesterday after two days of the Intercollegiate North American Women's Championships at Cascade, Ore.
The Rainbows amassed 115 points 56 in eight A division races and 59 in eight B division races.
Yale took over first place with 77 points 42 in A division and 35 in B division. Navy slipped to second with 85 points 45 in A division and 40 in B division.
Hawai'i's A team of Jennifer Warnock, Shandy Buckley, Cassie Harris and Blaire Ladd finished first in the third and seventh races and was sixth in the division.
The Rainbows' B team of Renee DiCurtis, B.J. Clausen and Sarah Reed won the third and eighth races and was fifth in the division.
The championships end today.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Second team for Suzuki: Cal State Fullerton catcher Kurt Suzuki, a 2001 graduate of Baldwin High, was named to the second team of USA Today's Sports Weekly All-America team. Suzuki, of Wailuku, leads the Titans with a .438 batting average, 13 home runs and 74 RBIs. He has six steals in eight attempts and has walked 43 times to striking out 23 times. He also has a .992 fielding percentage.
The first-team catcher by Sports Weekly is South Carolina senior Landon Powell. He is batting .359 with 19 home runs and 62 RBIs. He has committed only one error for a .998 fielding percentage.
SWIMMING
Boehm named Academic All-District: The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) selected University of Hawai'i swimmer Kurt Boehm to its 2004 Academic All-District VIII Men's At-Large first team. Boehm, a senior from Erlangen, Germany, has a 3.87 GPA, majoring in mechanical engineering. He is the UH record-holder for the 200-meter butterfly.
Hawai'i's Cheyne Bloch (3.20, business) was named to the second team.
