Couple-to-be chained to 'dogs'
We were delighted when my grownup granddaughter, Lissa, a teacher who works in Palo Alto, Calif., told us she was coming to Honolulu to be married in her home church. Her husband-to-be, Jon, works in genetics.
She and Jon had appointments for cake tasting and arranged a lu'au on a beach on the North Shore. Jon met a lot of new relatives on his first trip to Hawai'i.
"Would there be any chance that you and Jon will come to live in Hawai'i?" I asked.
"No Gramma, because we could never leave our dogs, but we will visit often," Lissa answered.
"You never mentioned your dogs before. Surely something could be worked out," I said.
"No Gramma," she replied. "I said, 'We couldn't leave our jobs.' "
