DR. ERNEST SILVA JR. has been promoted to Medical Office Program coordinator at Hawai'i Business College. Silva is a monk currently on sabbatical from his monastery in Spain. He joined the order at an early age and just returned from Rome, where he had a conference with the pope. He has served as a visiting professor in Hawai'i Pacific University's nursing program and is one of the top five residents in the University of Hawai'i John Burns School of Medicine.

SKIP BROWN has been named director of fleet/commercial sales at Mike McKenna's Windward Ford in Kailua. He was formerly fleet/commercial manager at Valley Isle Motors on Maui.

VAN CORNWELL has joined Pacific Guardian Life as assistant vice president of real estate investments. His responsibilities will include asset management of downtown Honolulu's Pacific Guardian Center, as well as commercial mortgage lending for POL. He was formerly with Bank of Hawaii in commercial real estate lending.

NEAL ARITA of Heide & Cook Ltd. will be president of the Sheet Metal Contractors Association for the 2004-06 biennial term. Other officers installed were: vice president CLARK "SKIP" MORGAN of Alaka'i Mechanical Corp.; secretary BRIEN SEN of Oahu Plumbing & Sheetmetal Ltd.; and treasurer OWEN MURAMATSU of Elite Mechanical Inc. Installed directors were ELBERT SAITO of Commercial Sheetmetal Co. Inc.; GABRIEL ZEE of HSI Mechanical, a division of Honolulu Shipyard Inc.; JEANETTE MONMA of American Mechanical & Service Corp. and YOSHIKO KAWAKAMI of Quality Sheetmetal and Air Conditioning Co. Ltd.

• Bank of Hawaii has announced the following senior management appointments:

  • ALLAN LANDON, president and chief financial officer, is now also chief operating officer. He will oversee the commercial banking, investment services and corporate regulatory administration departments while continuing his responsibilities in finance, investor relations, human resources, legal and technology operations. His expanded role will allow him to work more closely with delivery of services to customers while continuing his leadership involvement in community activities.
  • DONNA TANOUE, vice chairman of the Investment Services Group and a member of the managing committee, has assumed the newly created position of vice chairman and chief administrative officer. She advises Landon on community affairs and will now oversee regulatory relations, compliance, the law department, the corporate secretary's office, security, corporate communications, charitable giving through the Bank of Hawaii Foundation, Community Reinvestment Act activities and government relations. She will continue to serve on the bank's board of directors.
  • PETER HO, group executive vice president of the Hawaii Commercial Group and a member of the managing committee, has been promoted to vice chairman of the Investment Services Group. In his new role, he oversees private banking and personal trust, asset management and institutional services.
  • RICHARD KEENE has been promoted to vice chairman, chief financial officer and member of the managing committee. He oversees the treasury, controllers, investor relations, corporate sourcing and facilities management departments.

STEVEN COLE has been hired as Hawai'i market manager of Kona Brewing Co. He is responsible for overseeing sales of the company's draft and bottled beers at restaurant and retail locations throughout the state.

ADELINE LUI has been hired as marketing and promotions manager of Desert Island Restaurants, which owns the three Ruth's Chris Steak House locations in Hawai'i and the expanding Thaifoon chain on the Mainland. A University of Hawai'i graduate, she is based in Scottsdale, Ariz., where the company, headed by former Honolulu resident Randy Schoch, is headquartered.

KENTON ELDRIDGE, a seasoned corporate director and executive officer, has joined the board of directors of Hoku Scientific, a developer of advanced components for Proton Exchange Membrane fuel cells.

• Laird Christianson Advertising has announced the addition of three senior staff members in its account service and creative departments:

  • STEVE PALMER has been named account director. His clients include Kraft Foods Hawai'i and Alaska, Centrex Destination Properties Hawai'i Division and Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park.
  • PAMELA FUTA CAMPBELL is the new account executive. She will manage advertising and marketing for Hilo Hattie Hawai'i and North America.
  • MIKE JANOWSKY has been named senior art director. His responsibilities include conceptual development of print and broadcast campaigns for clients such as Hawaiian Waters Adventure Park, the American Red Cross, Hilo Hattie, Coldwell Banker Pacific Properties and City Bank.

ERIC MATSUDA has joined SSFM International's Maui Operations as senior project engineer. He is a graduate of the University of Hawai'i College of Engineering and is a licensed civil engineer and land surveyor.
