Foundation awards 55 scholarships to high school seniors

The Mamoru and Aiko Takitani Foundation has awarded 55 scholarships to outstanding high school seniors in Hawai'i.

Derek Fujio of Mid-Pacific Institute received the Mamoru Takitani Distinguished Student Award of $10,000, and Brandon R. Eum of Leilehua High School received the Aiko Takitani Distinguished Student Award of $10,000. Anson K.S. Chu of Kaiser High School won the Karen Uno Outstanding Student Award of $5,000.

Seven students received $2,000 scholarships. They are:

Roniza Gonzales of Maui High School; Mallory James of Seabury Hall on Maui; Sonya Kuki of Hilo High School; Aaron Rillamas of Kahuku High School; Kari Tanimoto of Pearl City High School; Mazie Tsang of Sacred Hearts Academy; and Erwin Wright III of Waimea High School.

The following students received $1,000 scholarships:

• Honolulu District: Natasia De Silva, Kalani High School; Mary Rose Go, Roosevelt High School; May Arvie Godoy, Farrington High School; Yili Ma, Kaimuki High School; Diana Wan, McKinley High School.

• Central O'ahu District: Crystal Lam, 'Aiea High School; Larson Paul Layugan, Radford High School; Sharmaine Saguibo, Waialua High School; Christina Shin, Moanalua High School; Ariel Zane, Mililani High School.

• Leeward O'ahu District: Arlene Aquiat, Waipahu High School; Matthew Ishitani, Wai'anae High School; Elaine Kamanawa, Nanakuli High School; Thuan Nguyen, Campbell High School.

• Windward O'ahu District: Christy Ann L. Gilman, Kailua High School; Michael Mayeda, Castle High School; Samuel Wilhoite, Kalaheo High School.

• Hawai'i District: Cecily Ballio, Honoka'a High School; Kellianne Chong, Kealakehe High School; May Gebin, Pahoa High School; Kelsey Harrity, Konawaena High School; Jennifer Hamada, Waiakea High School; Sharon Padamada, Kea'au High School; Jared Pasalo, Kohala High School; Bonnie Salmo, Ka'u High School.

• Maui District: Christine Caraang, Lana'i High School; Chanelle Chin, Baldwin High School; Carmen Delos Reyes, Moloka'i High School; Tyler Fujiwara, Lahainaluna High School; Jonathon Hirata, King Kekaulike High School; Mikaele Pavao, Hana High School.

• Kaua'i District: Lisa Kobayashi, Kaua'i High School; Ashley Valvieja, Kapa'a High School.

• Hawaii Association of Independent Schools: Rose Clark, St. Joseph High School in Hilo; Kyla Kitamura, La Pietra-Hawaii School for Girls; Darin Itamura, Hawaii Baptist Academy; Jeffrey Lawi, Iolani School; Elizabeth Nakasone, St. Andrew's Priory School; Jaclyn Palola, Hanalani Schools; Christie Tomlinson, Lutheran High School; Alicia Yee, Punahou School.

• Hawai'i Catholic Schools: Tiffany K.L. Loo, Maryknoll School; Brenda M. Luce, St. Anthony Jr. Sr. High School on Maui; Tanya T. Ngo, St. Francis School; and Tevita T. Williams, Damien Memorial High School.
