UH interviews finalist for dean

Advertiser Staff

A finalist for the position of dean of the University of Hawai'i's School of Business Administration is in Honolulu this week meeting with UH officials.

VANCE ROLEY

V. Vance Roley, the acting dean and the Hughes M. Blake Professor of Finance at the University of Washington School of Business, could not be reached for comment. But his assistant in Seattle said that he is in Honolulu to "check things out further" and that he had not made a decision on the position.

UH officials have declined to confirm whether Roley, who was one of two finalists for the position, was selected. The UH Board of Regents personnel committee last month reviewed the administration's selection and is recommending that the full board approve it at its next board meeting Nov. 19 at Maui Community College.

Roley has been on the University of Washington Business School's faculty since 1983. Before that, he held administrative and teaching positions at Harvard University, the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, and the Council of Economic Advisors. He received his bachelor's degree in economics and statistics at the University of CaliforniaiBerkeley and his master's and doctorate in economics at Harvard.

The second finalist was Steven J. DeKrey, the associate dean and director of the masters of business administration and masters of science programs and founding director of the Kellogg Executive Management Program at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
