Tonight on KHNL News 8

Get the latest news at 5, 6 and 10 from Howard Dashefsky and Jodi Leong, plus up-to-the-minute weather from Sharie Shima.
Election coverage, various times and networks throughout afternoon and prime time. Wrapping up one of the angriest races in American history, networks report and analyze the results. Expect them to do it cautiously — especially after the mistakes in 2000. Some broadcast stations will carry their usual shows ("Jeopardy," etc.), joining the networks at varied times after 2 p.m. Then there are CNN, Fox News Channel, MSNBC and C-SPAN — they'll officially start at 2 p.m. or sooner, then they'll obsess all day.

"Kevin Hill" (4 p.m.) and "Veronica Mars" (5 p.m.), KIKU (UPN). This is a big night for UPN with new episodes from two of the season's best new dramas. "Kevin Hill" has Taye Diggs as a once-brash lawyer now raising his orphaned baby niece. Tonight, he defends a hockey star who was fired after a fight. And Kevin's gay nanny moves into the apartment. "Veronica Mars" has Kristen Bell as a teenage detective. Tonight, she probes school election fraud. Also, Harry Hamlin and Lisa Rinna (married in real life) play the parents of a scandalized student.

Of Note

"Catch Me If You Can" (2002), 4:30 p.m., HBO. Steven Spielberg nimbly directed this fun romp. It's the true story of a young guy (Leonardo DiCaprio) who faked his way into professions while passing bad checks. Tom Hanks stars as the bumbling federal agent pursuing him.

"The Godfather" (1972), 6 p.m., AMC. Election-skippers can savor Francis Coppola's classic. Al Pacino stars with Marlon Brando, James Caan, Diane Keaton and others.

"World Cup Comedy," 7 p.m., Pax TV. Improvisational comedy teams pretend to be bus passengers heading to Las Vegas.

"Nova: Volcano's Deadly Warning," 8 p.m., PBS. Alongside spectacular volcano footage, this rerun tells of efforts to detect warning signs more quickly.

"Cold Turkey," 8 and 9 p.m., Pax TV. In a change, Pax will run this reality show — with housemates trying to quit smoking — on Tuesdays. Starting next week, new episodes will air at 9 p.m. First, catch up with these reruns: At 8, housemates see themselves on TV; at 9, one gets a choice to leave.
