Can Kamehameha find its football crown for the first time in a quarter century?

The Warriors, coming off a stunning 18-0 win against 18-time defending Interscholastic League of Honolulu champion Saint Louis on Saturday, have different ways of clinching the ILH title.

Kamehameha (5-1) needs to beat Division II Pac-Five (0-5-1) on Friday to at least get the league's Division I state berth.

The Warriors can win the overall ILH title if Punahou (2-4) beats Iolani (6-1) on Friday.

If the Warriors and the Raiders both win, a playoff for the overall title is set for Nov. 13 at Aloha Stadium. Kamehameha beat Iolani, 51-20, on Oct. 8.

Kamehameha is seeking its first ILH crown since 1979. The Raiders are looking for their first ILH title since 1980, the year they played in the only tie in Prep Bowl history (7-7 against Wai'anae).

Meanwhile, how rare was a shutout of a Saint Louis football team?

• It was the first shutout at the hands of an O'ahu team since Leilehua beat the Crusaders, 10-0, in the 1984 Prep Bowl. Leilehua was coached by Hugh Yoshida, who went on to become the University of Hawai'i athletic director. Saint Louis was coached by Cal Lee, now an assistant football coach at UH.

• It was shut out by an ILH team for the first time since Damien beat Saint Louis, 2-0, in a regular-season game in 1982. The Monarchs, who haven't beaten Saint Louis in 22 years, defeated the Crusaders twice that year, also beating them, 15-14, in the second round.

Pac-Five's home pool washed out by rain

The Pac-Five boys water polo team made it to the site of the ILH championship game one day early.

Due to Saturday's heavy rains in Manoa, the Mid-Pacific pool — where Pac-Five practices — flooded, forcing the team to find a new practice pool: Iolani School.

Pac-Five plays Punahou for the overall ILH title tonight at Iolani School at 6.

"I think it's going to help us, I think it will be good because we're going to be playing in that pool (today)," said Pac-Five coach Shawn Williamson, who held his practice at Iolani yesterday. "This is the first time we've ever had practice in a regulation-sized pool."

Pac-Five won its first ILH tournament title Thursday, upsetting four-time defending champion Punahou, winner of 27 titles overall, 5-4.

"I know Punahou is going to be extremely angry, and they're looking to defend their title," Williamson said.

Notes

Correction: Kamehameha's Drew Ueno blocked the field-goal attempt by Saint Louis in Saturday's 18-0 victory. Another player was identified.

Hired: Sen. Bob Hogue, R-24th (Kailua, Kane'ohe) has been named boys' varsity basketball coach at Academy of the Pacific, athletic director Brad Kitsu announced in a press release. Also hired were Jayson Kaneaiakala as Hogue's assistant and Maika'i Otsuka-Spencer as the intermediate team's coach.
