UH golfer second at Turtle Bay tourney

University of Hawai'i sophomore Cody Wolfenbarger shot a 3-under-par 69 and is second after the first round of the UH/Turtle Bay Intercollegiate yesterday at the Palmer Course.

Wolfenbarger is two strokes behind tournament leader Brendan Steele of UC Riveriside.

The Warriors shot a 3-over 291 and are fifth, just five strokes behind tournament leader UNLV. Central Oklahoma and UC Riverside are tied for second at 1-over-par 287 and Virginia is fourth with a 289.

The tournament's second round is today at 7:30 a.m. at the Fazio Course.

Two teams tied for Bridgestone lead

Defending champions Kevin Hayashi and Elton Tanaka, and the duo of Jeff Ferry and Bryan Edwards are tied for the lead after the first round of the Bridgestone Sports Pro-Scratch Championship yesterday at Pearl Country Club.

The teams shot 60s in the two-man scramble format.

Lance Suzuki and son Nathan Suzuki are one stroke back.

Each team has one professional and one amateur.

The Aloha Section PGA tournament will award $10,200 to professionals and $3,400 in merchandise certificates and prizes to amateurs.

Today's final round will begin at 7:14 a.m. It will be a best-ball format.



CYCLING

Diabetes fund-raiser will be Nov. 14

Tour de Cure, a cycling fund-raiser presented by the American Diabetes Association Hawai'i area office, will be held Nov. 14 at Kapi'olani Park.

Bike riders of all ages and skill levels may participate.

There are three distances for riders to choose from: a 25K route that goes to Hawai'i Kai; a 50K route that goes to Waimanalo; and a 75K route that is a loop of the 50K and 25K routes.

The three routes will begin and end at Kapi'olani Park.

The registration fee is $45 and fund-raising is encouraged.

UH CAMP

Four baseball clinics will be in December

University of Hawai'i baseball is offering four camps for individuals ages 7 to 18 in December.

The camps will be held at Les Murakami Stadium and conducted by the UH coaching staff, UH players and high school coaches.

A pitcher/catcher camp will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Dec. 20 to 22 with a hitting camp to follow from 1 to 4 p.m.

Another series of the same camps will run Dec. 27 to 29.

Camp cost is $115. The cost is $200 for registering for both the pitcher/catcher camp and hitting camp.
