Surveillance results in arrest

Police yesterday arrested a 36-year-old Hau'ula man in connection with the theft of computer equipment and other personal items from a 62-year-old man who lives near Ala Moana Center.

The older man told police his computer was among the items stolen during a burglary at his home on Saturday.

Police said the man "put the word out on the street" that he would pay a cash reward for the return of his property. They said the man whose home was burglarized got a call yesterday from a stranger who claimed to have the computer equipment.

A meeting was set for last night and police were called. Officers from the Waikiki police district crime reduction unit set up surveillance and watched as the computer equipment was exchanged for cash.

The Hau'ula man was arrested moments later for suspicion of second-degree theft.

Man held after alleged assault

A 30-year-old Pearl City man was arrested at Campbell Industrial Park yesterday after he allegedly tried to run over his former boss.

Police said the man who was arrested had gotten into a confrontation with his former manager, a 35-year-old man from Hale'iwa, and then tried to run him down about 8:15 a.m.

Officers from the Kapolei police substation arrested the former employee for suspicion of second-degree assault. The former manager received minor injuries during the incident, police said.

The suspect remained in police custody this morning while police continued their investigation.
