Advertiser Staff
In May 2003, photographers here were among thousands participating in the largest collaborative photography project in history America 24/7, which sought to document a week in the life of this country. Released in October 2003, "America 24/7" is a New York Times best seller. Now our state's slice is in bookstores: "Hawaii 24/7" showcases the work of 42 "shooters" including Honolulu Advertiser photographers
Deborah Booker and Jeff Widener. To have your favorite picture placed on the cover of any 24/7 book, go to www.america24-7.com.
Avoid stepfamily missteps
It takes time for a stepfamily to become a cohesive family unit, says Houston psychologist James Bray, Ph.D., in a Parents magazine article. Although you should prepare yourself for conflict, here are tactics to bring you closer:
Put your marriage first. A strong stepfamily depends on a strong marriage.
Discuss discipline. "A stepparent needs to develop a relationship with his stepchild before he begins to play a role in discipline," Bray says. Once you have house rules, they must apply to all kids equally.
Create one-on-one time with stepchildren.
Peter Farrelly | director of "Fever Pitch," telling the Hollywood Reporter how the upcoming movie's ending had to be rewritten after Boston won the World Series.
"We had gone into the movie anticipating that the Red Sox would not win the World Championship ... but ... we now have the double whammy of a happy love story and a championship team at the same time."
