Would-be purse snatcher sought

Police are looking for a woman who tried to take a purse from another woman yesterday in the Chinatown area of downtown Honolulu.

The victim told police the would-be purse snatcher approached from behind about 11:40 a.m., hit her on the back of the head and tried to take her purse, but failed.

Police classified the case as a robbery.


Pair arrested in stolen-car case

A 22-year-old woman was arrested early yesterday near the intersection of King and Ke'eaumoku streets on suspicion of auto theft, while a 21-year-old man who was a passenger in the car was arrested on drug charges.

A patrol officer saw a car about 3:35 a.m. that matched the description of stolen car that was broadcast earlier. The officer ordered the car to pull over, confirmed the car had been reported stolen and arrested the woman driving the car.

The passenger was arrested on suspicion of promotion of dangerous drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.


Man nabbed in alleged car theft

Police arrested a 25-year-old man in Waipahu last night on suspicion of car theft and a gun charge.

Officers saw a group of men inside a closed business on Leokane Street about 11 p.m. and went to investigate. They found a man in the parking lot trying to start a car and saw a semi-automatic handgun on the back seat.

A check of the car's vehicle identification number showed that it had been reported stolen.
