Go Italian this weekend at Doris Duke Theatre

Advertiser Staff

In "I Am Emma (Emma Sono Io)," screening tomorrow, high-spirited events take over when a hyper maniac stops taking her medicine.
An Italian film festival continues today and Saturday at the Doris Duke Theatre at the Honolulu Academy of Arts. The series, titled "Best of New Italian Cinema Events," features five recent films and is part of a larger, 13-year-old festival held in Amsterdam, Netherlands; Toronto; New York; and San Francisco.

The Friends of Italy Society of Hawaii, a film festival sponsor, hopes to bring the full festival — seven feature films and seven short films — to Honolulu in the future. Other sponsors include the Instituto Italiano di Cultura in San Francisco; the New Italian Cinema Events organization in Florence, Italy; and Ferrari/Maserati of Hawaii.

Admission to each film is $5 general, $3 for museum members. Each is in Italian, with English subtitles.

The festival launched last night with "Let's Have the Truth About Love (La Verita Vi Prego Sull'Amore)," 2001, directed by Francesco Apolloni. The remaining films:
