Lahainaluna loses, but clinches MIL Division I title

Josh Wilhelm rushed 11 times for 133 yards, including a 56-yard touchdown, to lead host King Kekaulike to a 27-7 victory over Lahainaluna in a Maui Interscholastic League football game at Pukalani, Maui, Friday night.

Despite the loss, Lahainaluna (8-1-1 overall, 3-1 in the MIL second half) clinched the MIL overall Division I title when Baldwin beat Maui, 48-0, last night at War Memorial Stadium.

Baldwin was 6-1-2, 3-1 in the second half. Maui finished 3-6, 1-3. Lahainaluna, co-champ of the MIL first half, was awarded the second-half title in a tiebreaker over Maui and King Kekaulike, which also finished the second half 3-1.

Lahainaluna will host the second-place O'ahu Interscholastic Association team in a first-round game in the state Division I tournament on Nov. 19.

In another game, Pac-Three defeated Kamehameha, 21-6, to win the MIL Division II title and Maui's berth in the DII state tournament.

Kealakehe, Konawaena advance in tourneys

Kealakehe defeated Kea'au, 41-0, to advance to the championship game of the Big Island Interscholastic Federation Division I tournament.

Kealakehe (7-4) plays Hilo (9-1) for the Division I title next week. Kea'au finished 4-6.

Shannon Hardie caught three touchdown passes from Mike Naihe in Konawaena's 40-14 victory over Kamehameha in the Division II playoffs on Friday.

Konawaena plays regular-season champion Hawai'i Prep for the Division II title on Saturday.

Isaac Miyashiro scored on an 8-yard run in the second quarter and Lance Taniguchi-Fu added a 2-yard score in the third quarter as Kapa'a defeated Waimea, 14-0, to win its first game of the season in the Kaua'i Interscholastic Federation's regular-season finale for both teams Friday night at Vidinha Stadium in Lihue.
