Two arrested in fatal stabbings

Two men were arrested over the weekend in connection with two separate fatal stabbings.

Bailey George Valentine, 25, was charged yesterday with killing a 42-year-old man Friday at Aloun Farms in Kapolei.

Police said Valentine got into an argument and stabbed a fellow farm worker, who has not been identified, about 9:10 p.m. The injured man was taken to St. Francis Medical Center-West where he was pronounced dead.

Valentine was being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.

In the other case, Kerry Sanders, 39, was arrested Saturday in connection with the stabbing death of Jonathan Nunes, 32, in Wahiawa on Thursday.

Police believe the two men got into an argument fronting 560 California Ave. about 7 p.m. when Nunes was stabbed with a 10-inch kitchen knife.

He was taken to Wahiawa General Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police found Sanders on Saturday near Kamehameha Highway and Kilani Avenue in Wahiawa.

Kahala bank branch robbed

The Bank of Hawaii branch in the Star Supermarket in Kahala Mall was robbed about 2:45 p.m. yesterday by a man who handed a teller a note saying he had a gun.

The robber told the teller to hand over the money, not to make any sudden moves and left the store with an undisclosed amount of money.

Man suspected in car break-ins

A 35-year-old man was arrested early yesterday as a suspect in two car break-ins near Date Street and Makaleka Avenue.

A witness told police the man broke into the cars and then left in a Chevrolet pickup truck. An officer, who was patrolling in the area, saw the truck heading west on Date Street near Kapiolani Boulevard and ordered it to stop.

The driver complied, then jumped out of the truck and ran, but was caught nearby.

Two men, ages 28 and 52, identified items recovered from the truck as their property and the pickup driver was charged with suspicion of unlawful entry of a motor vehicle.

Two men nabbed in Wahiawa attack

Two men were arrested on suspicion of assault and one of them on two drug charges following a beating last night at a Wahiawa apartment complex.

A 24-year-old man told police that the two men, ages 33 and 35, called him over about 11:10 p.m. and then began to beat him with a baseball bat when he approached.

The assailants left before police arrived but were arrested a short distance away on Kamehameha Highway across from the Wheeler Army Air Base main gate.

Both men were arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault while one of the men also was arrested on suspicion of promotion of dangerous drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia after arresting officers reported finding methamphetamine and an "ice" pipe in his pockets.
