Tonight's Must-See
"The 38th Annual CMA Awards," 7 p.m., CBS. Many of Nashville's top talents will gather for the Country Music Awards. That starts with Tim McGraw, who's nominated in the top categories, including single of the year for "Live Like You Were Dying." He'll start the show with his new single, "How Bad Do You Want It?" His wife, Faith Hill, will be there, too. She and Willie Nelson sing in the tribute to hall-of-fame inductee Kris Kristofferson. Other performers include Alan Jackson and Toby Keith (leading with seven and six nominations, respectively), plus Clint Black, Jimmy Buffett, Kenny Chesney, Teri Clark, Sara Evans, Martina McBride, Reba McEntire and a host of others.
Of Note
"The Rebel Billionaire: Branson's Quest for the Best" debut, 7 p.m., Fox. Here's a show that lies somewhere between NBC's "The Apprentice" (a quick success) and ABC's "The Benefactor" (a quicker failure). British mogul Richard Branson is in charge, promising that the winner will become head of his Virgin conglomerate. Ironically, it's the kind of show Fox satirizes with "My Big Fat Obnoxious Boss," on Sundays.
"The Biggest Loser," 7 p.m., NBC. With 10 contestants left, this weight-loss show expands to 90 minutes, so the floundering "Father of the Pride" can spend November on the bench.
"My Wife and Kids," 7 p.m., ABC. It's time for all-out karaoke. Michael (Damon Wayans) becomes James Brown; his wife (Tisha Campbell Martin) is Diana Ross.
"The George Lopez Show," 7:30 p.m., ABC. George's son and daughter both grasp for popularity, but one goes too far.
"Nova: America's Stone Age Explorers," 8 p.m., PBS. Ancient spears, similar in style, have been discovered in every Mainland state. That revives the question of who first populated this continent. Scientists disagree.
"According to Jim," 8 p.m., ABC. Jim fumes when his daughter would rather go to the dad-daughter dance with her Uncle Andy.
"Scrubs," 8:30 p.m., NBC. A patient's daughter (Julianna Margulies) is bright and beautiful and flirtatious, but there's a catch: She's also a fierce malpractice attorney.
"NYPD Blue," 9 p.m., ABC. Andy feels badly shaken about his partner's troubles and by the pointless slaying of a husband and father. That leads to an unusual and emotional dialogue. We won't say any more, but catch it and see two gifted actors at work.
