The Hula Preservation Society event takes place at the Waikiki Shell, with gates opening at 4:30 p.m. and the show at 5:30 p.m. Tickets cost from $5 to $25.

'Hawaiian Son' celebration to feature Kamae, friends

Eddie would go ... to a book-signing? Eddie Kamae, a singer, composer, 'ukulele virtuoso, filmmaker and researcher has been a leading force in the Hawaiian cultural renaissance for 30 years. His personal odyssey is the subject of a book, "Hawaiian Son: The Life and Music of Eddie Kamae" ('Ai Pohaku Press), written by James D. Houston with Kamae's help. The book portrays the influential kupuna, dancers, musicians and storytellers who guided Kamae on his journey.

The author will hold several signing sessions over the next few weeks. The first public signing will be at Bestsellers, Bishop Square, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Other signings are at Borders, Waikele, 4 to 5 p.m. Nov. 20; Na Mea,t Ward Warehouse, 2 to 3 p.m., Nov. 27; and Borders, Ward Centre, 4 to 5 p.m. Nov. 28.
