Man may face car-theft charges

A Pacific Heights man was arrested yesterday on suspicion of unlawful entry of a motor vehicle after he was found sleeping in a stolen car.

Police were called to a private home on Green Street about 12:15 p.m. and found the man, 42, asleep in a car that a Kalihi woman had reported stolen from the Liliha area on Thursday.

Police approached the car, confirmed it had been reported stolen, awakened the man and arrested him.

An investigation into the case is continuing and the man who was found sleeping in the car may face car theft charges as well, police said.

Victim reports Waikiki robbery

Police are investigating a complaint filed by a 25-year-old man who said he was robbed early yesterday morning, shortly after arriving in Hawai'i.

The man told police he decided to go for a walk in Waikiki and was befriended about 12:10 a.m. by five men, all in their early 20s.

The man told police that the men told him they had a gun but that he remained with them anyway and went with the group to an apartment building where he was told to wait outside. When the men came back outside, an object was pressed against his back and he was ordered to empty his pockets, the robbery victim told police.

One of the men took everything out of his pockets and all but one of the men left the area. The robber who stayed behind tried to provoke a fight before he also ran, the robbery victim said.

Police classified the case as a first-degree robbery.
