Romanian captures Futures crown

Horia Tecau defeated Wayne Odesnik, 6-4, 6-4, yesterday in the championship match of the Hilton Waikoloa Village Futures Tournament at the Kohala Tennis Club on the Big Island.

Tecau, of Romania, won $1,350 and 18 ATP ranking points. The 19-year-old lives and trains in Florida.

In the doubles final, Brendan Evans and Scott Oudsema held off Scoville Jenkins and Phillip Simmonds, 6-7 (4), 7-6 (2) and 6-4.



SAILING

Kalaheo pair wins national regatta

Kalaheo High School students Lauri Lehtiner and Ian Andrews won the Great Oaks High School National Fall Regatta yesterday in Louisiana.

Thirty-three teams competed in the event, hosted by the Southern Yacht Club.



SURFING

Vans Hawaiian Pro, Roxy Pro postponed

The Vans Hawaiian Pro men's surfing contest and Roxy Pro women's surfing contest were postponed yesterday due to insufficient wave conditions at Hale'iwa Ali'i Beach.

Both events are part of the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing.
