ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
O'ahu-filmed 'Lost' holds fans captive

Advertiser Staff and News Services

Oh, those guilty pleasures on the tube.

ABC may have shocked the "Desperate Housewives" faithful by pre-empting it for the American Music Awards on Sunday, but tube lovers can take comfort in knowing the shot-on-O'ahu "Lost" is going on at 7 tonight, its usual time slot on KITV 4.

This week's show focuses on Naveen Andrews' character Sayid tonight as he is attacked and held captive by a mysterious character. Sparks fly, and more of Sayid's story is revealed.

If there's one thing about "Lost" that is compelling, it's that you can always expect the unexpected.

TV — and its tales of stranded castaways — has come a long way since "Gilligan's Island."

A long, long way, indeed.

Show-stopping bargains expected at Hawai'i Theatre gift-shop sale

The Hawai'i Theatre is converting its gift shop into a logo store. The two words you need to know with Christmas around the corner: Big! Sale!

Volunteer Claire Engle has cared for the gift shop for the past eight years. After ringing up more than $50,000 in sales for the theatre, Engle is retiring and moving to the Mainland.

Hoping to sell all of the shop's inventory, the theatre is offering bargains on souvenirs, jewelry, music boxes, toys, ornaments, games, cookbooks, frames, candles and more. The sale takes place 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

For more information, call 734-2355.

Final word

Jason Alexander, when asked which character — George Costanza from "Seinfeld" or Tony Kleinman from "Listen Up" — is more like him in real life:

"I was never George. I never had friendships like his. I never dated; I met (my wife) Daena when I was 19."
