ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Help charity feed thousands of people this Thanksgiving

Advertiser Staff

A good way to get into the holiday spirit is to help a coalition of Leeward-area organizations who will be serving their annual Thanksgiving meal for the needy on Nov. 20. Donations are being accepted for the 6th annual Thanksgiving Outreach Project, sponsored by Ko Olina Charities and Ko Olina Resort & Marina, with aid from 13 area churches, O'ahu culinary students and the transport power of United Parcel Service. Together, they'll feed more than 4,000 people. To help, send checks payable to Ko Olina Charities, c/o Thanksgiving Outreach, 92-1480 Ali'inui Drive, Ko Olina, HI 96707. To volunteer, call Natasha Clarin at 671-2512.

Learn about Hawai'i spas and sign up for drawing

A book on spas in Hawai'i makes its debut this month, and those who attend signings between Nov. 20 and Dec. 9 and purchase a copy have a chance to win treatments at some of the Islands' most prestigious spas, and even stays at local hotels. "Hawai'i's Spa Experience" by Sherrie Strausfogel and Sophia Schweitzer (Mutual Publishing, softcover, $22.95) includes articles about select Island full-service spas, describes the ingredients used in Hawaiian-style treatments and includes spa recipes (from drinks to facials). An appendix has a more comprehensive listing of spas in the Islands and a spa-talk dictionary. For a signing schedule, check our Sunday Lit Beat calendar or see www.mutualpublishing.com.
