Foremost cow has herd of suitors

By Sean Hao
Advertiser Staff Writer

Meadow Gold Dairies said yesterday it has bought most of the assets of shuttered competitor Foremost DairiesiHawaii and hopes to acquire one more — the Foremost cow that stood in front of the Kalihi factory for decades.

Foremost's cow has been removed from its spot in front of the now-shuttered plant to prevent anyone from stealing it.

That may prove elusive.

The cow, a life-size replica of a black-and-white Holstein, has several suitors, and Foremost spokeswoman Lynette Lo Tom was coy about what it would take to persuade Foremost to part with its mascot.

Meadow Gold said that if it is the successful bidder, it will add the Foremost cow to a collection of imitation cows in its company auditorium. Meadow Gold's own mascot, Lani Moo, is a real cow that often resides at the Honolulu Zoo.

Meanwhile, Foremost is doing what it can to make sure no rustlers take off with the memorabilia. It has removed the cow from its familiar spot on the front lawn of the Foremost plant.

"The cow is safe," Tom said. "The cow is in storage."
