Wahine win WAC volleyball title

RENO, Nev. — The University of Hawai'i women's volleyball team defeated Nevada in four games today to win the Western Athletic Conference tournament.

The Rainbow Wahine won 30-21, 28-30, 30-22, 30-27. Hawai'i (26-0) is the only undefeated team in the nation and has won the last five WAC tournament titles. It was the Rainbow Wahine’s 106th consecutive victory over a WAC opponent.

UH's Victoria Prince was named tournament MVP. The 6-foot junior today had 16 kills, seven digs, two aces and a .577 hitting percentage. Susie Boogaard had 19 kills and 10 digs and Alicia Arnott had 17 kills, 11 digs and six blocks.

Salaia Salavea had 18 kills for unranked Nevada (20-8). Teal Ericson and Carly Sorensen followed with 11 kills apiece, and Karley Sipherd added 10.

Hawai'i, ranked No. 2 nationally, plays two non-conference matches this week in preparation for the NCAA tournament. The Wahine will play at Utah State on Tuesday and at No. 19 Utah on Wednesday.

The NCAA tournament begins the weekend of Dec. 2. The final four will be in Long Beach, Calif., on Dec. 16 and 18. The tournament bracket will be announced Nov. 28 on the NCAA selection show on ESPNews, 2:40 p.m. Hawai'i time.
