Chang surpasses 100 TDs

Hawai'i quarterback Tim Chang's first touchdown pass to receiver Jason Rivers in the first quarter, giving Hawai'i a 10-7 lead, was his 100th career touchdown pass.

Chang, who finished with six touchdown passes last night against Idaho, has 105 touchdown passes. He was the school's career touchdown leader entering this season.

Chang's previous single-game high of five was set Dec. 25, 2003, against Houston in the Sheraton Hawai'i Bowl.

"We needed to show him some different looks and pressure him sometimes," Idaho coach Nick Holt said. "But he has some beautiful passes. He was exactly what I thought he was. I saw him play last year. He's a good player and we knew that going in."

Chang's four touchdown passes in the second quarter tied a school record set by current team manager Nick Rolovich on Dec. 8, 2001, in the third quarter against Brigham Young.

Rivers on receiving end of record: Jason Rivers' four touchdown receptions set a school record. The previous high was three, held by seven others, including Rivers.

"Jason is a special receiver," Chang said. "He came across the middle and it's not easy coming across the middle like that."

Ayat on target: University of Hawai'i senior place kicker Justin Ayat's field goal at the 10:57 mark in the first quarter to put UH up 3-0 was his first since the Boise State game Oct. 29.

Final time on air: Last night's game marked the conclusion of Idaho sportscaster Bob Curtis' career as the voice of the Vandals after 540 consecutive football games doing play by play.

Curtis, who will be 80 next month, began in 1947 and in 1958 became the full-time voice of football.

No aloha this time: Idaho coach Nick Holt played twice at Aloha Stadium as a linebacker for the University of Pacific in the mid-1980s.

He had 23 combined tackles in the 1983 and '85 games split by the two schools.

More black magic: Hawai'i wore its black uniforms again last night, the third consecutive home game the Warriors have brought out their "lucky" attire.

The Warriors are 11-3 in black.
