Pettis gives $10,000 to McDonald House

The Pettis Foundation has donated $10,000 to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Hawaii, which assists families with seriously ill children. The grant will have "a major impact," said the charity's director, Jerri Chong.


Smith Barney donates $4,800

The Honolulu branch of Smith Barney has donated $4,800 to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Hawaii, through Citigroup Foundation, as part of a local contributions program at the firm's branches across the country.


Grant of $30,000 to train teachers

The Center for Civic Education has awarded the Friends of the Judiciary History Center a $30,000 grant. The money will be used to train public and private school teachers throughout the state in civic education, constitutional doctrine, and public policy theory.


Schools benefit from Niketown 5

Thousands of participants turned out recently for the fifth annual Niketown 5 in Waikiki. Proceeds totaling $78,000 will benefit O'ahu schools.

Ma'ema'e Elementary School and Kaimuki Middle School had the largest turnouts, each raising about $5,500.


Waipahu groups awarded grants

The Waipahu Community Foundation has awarded quarterly grants to the following organizations: $5,000 to the Waipahu Intermediate Band, $2,006 to Girl Scout Troop 44, and $2,400 to the Waipahu Jackrabbits Association.
