UH biosciences lab gets $300,000

The Office for Domestic Preparedness Homeland Security Grant Program has given a $300,000 grant to the Department of Molecular Biosciences and Bioengineering at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa.

The money will allow UH to purchase a liquid chromatograph-mass spectrometer to enhance the laboratory's ability to identify unknown and dangerous chemicals present in environmental samples.



$75,000 to train businesswomen

The Small Business Administration has given the Hawaii Women's Business Center a $75,150 grant. The money will be used to provide training, counseling and mentoring services to women entrepreneurs.



Golf benefit raises $40,000

Star Markets Ltd. and Fujieki Family Foundation Trust raised $40,000 at its 11th Annual Benefit Golf Tournament. Proceeds were distributed to The Kuakini Foundation, American Diabetes Association and the Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific.



St. Francis health projects get $25K

First Hawaiian Bank has awarded a $25,000 grant to St. Francis Healthcare Foundation for the St. Francis Wailuku Renal Dialysis Facility project on Maui.

With its 135 patients, the Wailuku Dialysis Facility is now operating at capacity.
