First Hawaiian gives $100,000

First Hawaiian Foundation has awarded a $100,000 grant to the YMCA of Honolulu.

The grant is for the YMCA's capital campaign, Reaching for Tomorrow. It will be paid over four years.

The goal of the campaign is $30 million, to be used for five major projects: a new Kalihi YMCA, an expanded Leeward YMCA in Waipahu, a new Wai'anae Coast YMCA, an expanded Windward YMCA in Kailua; and a renovated Central YMCA at Ala Moana.

Ignition grant for Sacred Hearts

Sacred Hearts Academy has received a $2,000 grant after being among 25 schools nationwide selected as semifinalists for a service-learning grant established to help save teen lives.

The Project Ignition grant will be used by students to create a public awareness campaign targeted at their peers and communities about teen driver safety.

The project will address how distractions while driving can cause tragedy.
