The joy of helping

For some Island residents, the joys of Christmas are painfully tempered by a lack of even the basics that many of us take for granted. For many residents are just getting by, finding the necessities — food, clothing and even food — can be an everyday struggle.

That's why The Advertiser's Christmas Fund is so important. Each day from now until Christmas Eve, you'll see articles about your neighbors in need, as they share their stories. The hope is that in reading these stories, you'll find it in your heart to give. Their needs are far from extravagant. Some ask for clothing for their children; others could use some basic pieces of furniture; some parents are hoping for just a little something to put under the tree for their kids. In partnership with Helping Hands Hawai'i, the donations you make to The Advertiser Christmas Fund can help make some of these wishes come true.

How to give:

To donate, send checks payable to "The Advertiser Christmas Fund" to Helping Hands Hawai'i, P.O. Box 17780, Honolulu, HI 96817. Donations can also be dropped off at any First Hawaiian Bank. Goods can be donated at the Community Clearinghouse, 2100 N. Nimitz Highway. For details, call 440-3804.
