Wildcat alumni band together

Northwestern's "band" — complete with bright purple aloha shirts — was made up of Northwestern band alumni and current members, who traveled to Hawai'i on their own dollar.

About 25 members past and present, who received some help from Northwestern but had to pay for their airfare, made the trip for the game.

"We love our team," said Dave Weyburn, 28, of Austin, Texas, who was one of the nine alumni joining the Wildcats' band.

Pearman leaves UH

Freshman running back Andrew Pearman has received a release from his football scholarship.

Pearman, who was redshirting this season, has been on an excused leave of absence from the team for more than a week. He missed last week's game against Idaho and did not attend last night's game.

Pearman was considered to be the jewel of UH's 2004 recruiting class after rushing for a county-record 2,268 yards as a senior at Providence High in Charlotte, N.C., last year.

Moreland gets a start

Hawai'i junior defensive back Turmarian Moreland earned his first career start last night. He finished with two tackles and broke up one pass.

UH 5-9 against Big Ten

Hawai'i is 5-9 against Big Ten teams as a Division I member. The last time UH had beaten a Big Ten team was in 1997, against Minnesota.

First TD as a Wildcat

Northwestern freshman receiver Kim Thompson's touchdown reception in the first quarter was the first of his career.

Long for NU kicker

Northwestern sophomore kicker Joel Howells 43-yard field goal in the first quarter was a career-long. He followed that up with a 46-yarder in the Wildcats' next drive.

Second-quarter surge

The 28 points the Warriors scored in the second quarter was the most any opponent has put up against the Wildcats in a quarter this season.

Herron stopped short

The Warriors defense held Northwestern running back Noah Herron, who was second in the Big Ten with 117.4 yards per game, to 90 yards.

Rare two-pointer

The two-point conversion scored by Northwestern in the fourth quarter was its first this season and first allowed by UH this season.

Moanalua tunes in

The Moanalua High marching band provided the halftime entertainment.
