Clown princes of basketball break out at Blaisdell Arena

Advertiser Staff

The red-white-and-blue unis, the buckets of water — no wait, that's confetti! — and of course the whistle-while-you-dazzle strains of "Sweet Georgia Brown."

Curley Johnson of the Harlem Globetrotters helps a fan finger-spin the ball. The legendary basketball team performs in Honolulu tonight.

Who doesn't love the Harlem Globetrotters?

And in the wake of the NBA "smackdown" between the Detroit Pistons and the Indiana Pacers last week, who couldn't use a reminder that basketball, above all else, is supposed to be fun?

The clown princes of basketball return to Honolulu 7:30 p.m. tonight at the Blaisdell Arena.

Tickets are $10, $19.50, $25 and $35 (plus service charge), and are available at the Blaisdell box office and Ticketmaster locations, including Times Super Markets. Tickets also can be purchased by phone, (877) 750-4400, or at www.ticketmaster.com. A 10 percent discount is available for groups of 20 or more.

The event is sponsored by the Hong Kong-based Lighthouse Events, which has a five-year, 260-game agreement to promote the Globetrotters throughout Asia.

Combining their amazing basketball skills with family-friendly tricks and gags, Globetrotters have performed for more than 120 million people in 127 countries since their inception in 1927.
