Hawai'i Pacific University has enrolled a record number of new students this fall about 8,500 in its credit programs for an overall student population gain of 2.5 percent.
HPU officials said the figures are not final because enrollment is continuing in the school's course offerings at military bases.
But the preliminary analysis shows an 18 percent boost in new undergraduates registering, according to a release from the university.
The largest increase was a 21 percent rise in new undergraduate students from the Mainland. California, Washington, Texas, Oregon and Illinois residents led the surge, HPU said.
Enrollment of new undergraduates from foreign countries increased 13 percent. The greatest numbers were reported from Sweden, Germany, Japan, Korea and China.
