Presentation on Pure Land

Ryusei Takeda, a professor at Ryukoku University in Kyoto and a Jodo Shinshu scholar, will lead a daylong presentation at 10 a.m. Wednesday, discussing "Mutual Transformation of Pure Land Buddhism and Christianity" and "Religious Pluralism and Pure Land Buddhist Doctrine."
The free presentation, part of the Rev. Yoshiaki Fujitani Interfaith Program, will be held in the Ching Conference Center, on the second floor of Eiben Hall of Chaminade University, 3140 Wai'alae Ave.
Director of the Center of Humanities, Science and Religion, Takeda is also author of "Between Science and Religion" (Hozokan, 2002) and "Shinran's Pure Land Buddhism and Nishida's Philosophy" (Nagata Bunshodo, 1991). After each of his lectures, there will be group discussion.

The Rev. Kekapa Lee will discuss "Witness for Justice Diamondback Correctional Facility Oklahoma" at next week's Interfaith Open Table.
Lee, the United Church of Christ's associate conference minister for the Hawaiian Evangelical Churches, recently visited Diamondback. He will discuss how men there are seeking to practice their Hawaiian spirituality and culture.
Also at the meeting, Chaminade University adjunct professor Willis Moore will discuss "Liberation Theology in El Salvador." (He'll also give a slides-and-video presentation on the topic at 5 p.m. Oct. 17 at St. Clement's Episcopal Church.)
The Interfaith Open Table meets at 7 a.m. Wednesday at the UCC Conference Center board room, 15 Craigside Place.
