Puna man killed in head-on crash

A 20-year-old Puna man died in a head-on collision early yesterday on the Big Island.

Police identified him as Stephen A. Dela Cruz of Pahoa.

Police said his Ford Mustang was headed south on the Hawai'i Belt Road near the seven-mile marker when he crossed the center line shortly before 3 a.m. and crashed into a fuel truck driven by a 43-year-old 'Ainaloa man, who suffered minor injuries. Dela Cruz was pronounced dead at the Hilo Medical Center at 10:05 a.m.

The crash remains under investigation.
