BYUH seeks Regional tennis titles

Brigham Young-Hawai'i teammates Dillon Porter and Dorian Porada will play each other in today's men's singles final of the Wilson/ITA West Regionals in San Diego.

Top-seed Porter defeated UC San Diego's Eric Rubens, 6-4, 6-2, in one semifinal yesterday. Second-seed Porada defeated UC San Diego's Brent Molden, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4, in the other semifinal.

In women's play, BYUH's Adrienn Hegedus and Jing Jing Liu advanced to the singles semifinals and the doubles final.

Top-seed Hegedus defeated Bakersfield's Patty Pfister, 6-0, 6-0, and then defeated Marissa Hilker of UC San Diego, 6-0, 6-1, in the quarterfinals.

Second-seed Liu defeated Katie Murphy of Sonoma State, 6-0, 6-0, and then beat UC San Diego's Marsha Malinow, 6-1, 6-1 in the quarterfinals.

In doubles competition, top-seed Hegedus and Liu defeated Cal Poly Ponoma's Renee Paquillo and Ellyn Caprara, 8-2, and then beat No. 4 Nikita Bhardwaj and Medini Sharma of Grand Canyon, 8-2, in the semifinals.



MEN'S GOLF

UH tied for 17th in Tucker Invitational

The University of Hawai'i men's golf team is tied for 17th place after yesterday's second round of the William H. Tucker Invitational at Albuquerque, N.M.

The Warriors shot a 601. Hawai'i's Kellen-Floyd Asao and teammate Ryan Perez each shot 7-over-par 151 and are tied for 64th.

Arizona leads the team competition with a 563. Arizona's Henry Liaw leads the individual competition with a 9-under 135.



WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL

HPU, Chaminade earn PacWest victories

Flavia Brakling tallied a team-high 16 kills as eighth-ranked Hawai'i Pacific swept visiting Western New Mexico 30-28, 30-21, 30-19 in a Pacific West Conference match last night at the Neal Blaisdell Arena.

Vera Oliveira, the reigning PacWest Player of the Week, had 46 assists for the Sea Warriors (11-1, 5-0). St. Francis alum Liz Narkon had 16 kills for the Mustangs (14-6, 2-2).

Patti Hardimon had a team-high 19 kills and Marijana Stanic added 15 as host Chaminade defeated Montana State-Billings, 32-34, 30-23, 30-22, 30-19, in a PacWest match last night at McCabe Gym.

The Silverswords (9-3, 4-1) collected 18 team blocks and served up 11 aces against the Yellowjackets (8-5, 1-3).
