ISLAND LIFE SHORTS
Organize one bit at a time

Advertiser Staff

The hardest part about getting organized is getting started, says Donna Smallin, author of "The One-Minute Organizer Plain & Simple." Smallin offers these tips to nudge you toward an uncluttered life:

• Establish a daily organizing reward. Allow yourself to surf the Internet or chat on the telephone once your organizing time is up — not before.

• Tackle one room at a time. Organize it one shelf, one drawer at a time.

• Make organizing time more fun. Turn on the radio or play a CD.

Reduce your water use

The Board of Water Supply has launched a long-term conservation campaign to reduce water consumption 10 percent or more in homes, business, industry and government. Here's how you can help:

1. Water lawns two to three times a week.

2. Don't water lawns between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

3. Check for leaks in plumbing and toilets.

4. Install water-efficient plumbing fixtures.

5. Take shorter showers.

6. Put a nozzle on your garden hose.

7. Don't let faucets run.
