Island Air now flying to Lihu'e

LIHU'E, Kaua'i — Island Air yesterday launched service to Lihu'e Airport, making it the only airline providing scheduled service to each of the six islands with airports.

Island Air vice president for customer service Richard Hee said the airline offers two daily roundtrips each to Hono-lulu and Kahului, Maui. Island Air has nine 37-seat de Havilland Dash-8 aircraft, and expects a 10th late this month.

Island Air last flew to Kaua'i in 1996, in scheduled service to Princeville Airport.



Thailand to buy Kona shrimp

Honolulu-based Kona Bay Marine Resources Inc. yesterday said it has received a license to export disease-resistant white shrimp brood stock to Thailand. The marine biotech company, which has a production facility in Kailua on the Big Island, said it plans to double capacity and add three to four people within the next year to meet demand from Thailand. Brood stock essentially are the parents of shrimp sold as food.
