San Diego-Maui service on way

Aloha Airlines said yesterday it will launch daily non-stop service between San Diego and Maui beginning Dec. 15.

At that time the airline also will begin nonstop daily service between San Diego and Reno, Nev. The schedule calls for Aloha Flight 475 to depart Reno at 6:30 a.m. and arrive in San Diego at 7:56 a.m. The flight continues from San Diego, departing at 8:46 a.m. and arriving in Kahului, Maui, at 12:40 p.m.

Aloha is offering introductory fares as low as $149 one way between San Diego and Hawai'i, and $69 one way between San Diego and Reno.



Nobel laureates at conference

Two Nobel laureates are scheduled to speak at the Hawaii Bioscience Conference in January in connection with the grand opening of the University of Hawai'i John A. Burns School of Medicine's new campus in Kaka'ako.

Among the 15 researchers set to speak at the conference are Nobel Prize winners Dr. J. Michael Bishop, chancellor of the University of California, San Francisco; and David Baltimore, president of the California Institute of Technology. The meeting is Jan. 13 and 14 at the Hawai'i Convention Center.



Servco invests in Hoku Scientific

Servco Pacific Inc. yesterday announced that it invested $1 million in fuel-cell technology developer Hoku Scientific Inc. In addition, Servco Chairman and Chief Executive Mark Fukunaga has joined Kalihi-based Hoku's board of directors.



Hawaiian Air No. 1 again

Hawaiian Airlines for the 10th consecutive month led all U.S. airlines in August, with 95.5 percent of its flights arriving on time.

Hawaiian also was ranked No. 1 in baggage handling and for recording the fewest flight cancellations.
